Size Guide

At MODESTLY, we offer two main abaya categories: standard sizes and plus sizes.

This page is here to help you understand the difference between the two and guide you in finding the right fit for your body.

We’ve included simple measuring tips, detailed size charts, and a height-based abaya length guide so you can shop with confidence.

Whether you’re new to wearing abayas or you’ve been with us from the beginning, this guide is for you.

We also offer free 30-minute abaya fittings at our Nottingham unit. To book your appointment, simply fill out the form at the bottom of this page.

At MODESTLY, we offer two size categories to ensure inclusivity:

  • Standard Size Abayas – Suitable for individuals up to UK size 18.

  • Plus-Size Abayas – Designed for those who wear UK size 20 to 30.

Our Sizing Categories

Abaya Length

Abaya length is usually measured from the top of your shoulder all the way down to your ankle. You can choose whether you want your abaya to fall just above the floor or sit slightly higher, around the ankle. Whatever point you prefer, that full measurement from shoulder to hem is your abaya length

How to Measure Your Abaya Length

Abaya sizes are based on height and range from:
50 , 52, 54, 56, 58, 60 , 62 inches.

To find the right length:

  1. Use a measuring tape (in inches).

  2. Stand in front of a mirror for better visualization.

  3. Place the start of the tape at your shoulder (ask someone to assist).

  4. Let the tape fall naturally and note the length where you'd like your abaya to end (ankle, feet, etc.).

Example:

  • Zoya wants her abaya to fully cover her feet when walking.

  • When measuring, she finds that 52 inches reaches her ankle.

  • To ensure full coverage, she chooses size 54.

Recommended Abaya Length

Our recommended abaya lengths are based on your height so the abaya sits around your ankle.

However, this is only a general guide. Everyone’s body is different. Some prefer floor length, some prefer ankle length, and your proportions may vary.

Some people may also fall between sizes. That’s why we always encourage you to double-check using a measuring tape. Measure from the top of your shoulder down to where you’d like the abaya to fall.

MODESTLY is not liable for incorrect size selections based on this chart. When in doubt, always measure first or reach out to us. We’re happy to help guide you.

Length is just one part of the fit

Now that you’ve figured out your abaya length, it’s just as important to check the width.

This means looking at the measurements around your bust, hips, or wherever you carry most of your shape. Every body is different, so make sure the abaya has enough room to sit comfortably without feeling tight.

The best fit comes when both the length and the width work for your body, that’s what makes your abaya feel easy to wear, not restrictive.

STANDARD SIZE VS PLUS SIZE

Our standard size abayas are designed for a comfortable fit up to UK size 18. As the abaya length increases, the bust size also increases slightly.

For example:

  • If you have a 48” bust but are shorter in height, a size 60 abaya may be too long for you yet it fits you at the bust. Which would mean you would need to tailor the length.

Our plus-size abayas cater to UK sizes 20 to 30, offering a loose and comfortable fit. Unlike standard sizes, the bust size remains 60 inches across all heights, so you won’t face the same fit issues as with standard abayas. This abaya provides a comfortable fit for bust sizes 46 to 60 inches - not too baggy for a 46-inch bust, yet still loose and flowy for a 60-inch bust.
